Avoid Delays: Your Top 6 to Complete Before The 2023 Chinese New Year
The holiday season poses a lot of stress on businesses as there are many celebrations worldwide where people take time off to be with friends and family. However, as some cultures may take a few days off here and there to celebrate the holidays, individuals celebrating Chinese New Year (CNY) may take several weeks to months off, creating a temporarily quiet and very subdued supply chain.

2023 brings an earlier Chinese New Year by ten days than in 2022. Typically, pre-Chinese New Year supply chain congestion began in mid-late December; however, the demand for supplier space and shipping is also earlier due to the earlier dates and in true CNY fashion. Of course, dates will fluctuate and vary with each supplier, so it is vital to use this time pre-CNY to collaborate and gain visibility and insight into what you should expect following the CNY holiday. Although the CNY holiday is only a 7-day national holiday, many people will take more time off to travel long distances to their hometowns. It is also expected that many workers may return to different places of work pre-CNY, meaning suppliers will have to train new employees. (This plays a critical role in Quality Assurance “QA,” which we’ll explain further in our Top 6 Checklist.)
Ready or Not: Chinese New Year is coming!
Rather than becoming frustrated, we recommend early preparations to help alleviate the strain of the CNY hiatus. While it’s almost mid-December, there is always time to start communicating with your suppliers, remain organized, and remain flexible and transparent. The holiday season isn’t going anywhere. Instead of becoming aggravated and distraught, embrace the temporary shutdown and use this time to connect with co-workers, plan post-CNY purchase orders or annual budgets, or take some time off before production picks back up.
